Sealers can be put into two categories: Topical Sealers and Impregnating Sealers.
Impregnating Sealers line the pores of natural stone allowing the stone to breathe and maintain natural stone strength. Impregnating sealers have a natural look finish and provide an excellent barrier against harmful oils and other liquid base contaminates.
Topical Sealers are hard wearing sealers that provide a physical barrier between normal surface wear and tear and your natural stone. Topical Sealers usually have a gloss or matt finish, and can make the sealed area slippery when wet. (Anti-slip agents can also be added)

Yes however it’s a long winded answer.

You have two different problems...... marble staining and etching. These problems can occur at the same time in the same spot, however, each requires a separate resolution.

Marble etching (dull spot) is most noticeable on polished marble, so if your marble is honed you may not notice it as much, but chances are there will be a light ring visible after you remove the red wine stain. A marble stain develops when the wine or any liquid absorbs into the stone creating a dark spot.

What likely happened is that the red wine first etched the marble, which damages the surface, exposing more porous raw marble making it more absorbent. Once etched, the red wine then absorbed and stained the marble.

Issue one: Etching has physically damaged your marble removing the shiny (or smooth honed) surface layer. This has nothing to do with sealing (in case you are wondering). Sealing won't prevent this.

Issue two: The wine has stained the marble. Again, a marble stain results when wine or other substance absorbs into the stone. Sealing can prevent stains.

Marble is reactive to acidic foods and drinks like red wine. Contact with acids will etch the marble causing the dull spots, bottle or cup rings.
So yes we can remove the stain with a mixture of chemicals and emulsers, it will also require a resurface and repolish.
